Kung Fu Ninja

This is the last of the photos that I took from the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge.

Just next to the Pfluger Bridge is another bridge for trains and some of Austin's more "creative" vandals have taken some time to paint "Ninja Style Kung Fu Grip" onto the side of it.  Why?  I guess it's the same answer as why some climb mountains... "Because it's there..."

Abstract Buildings in B&W

Here is yet another shot I took from the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge a couple weeks back.  This shot is made up of a combination of three high-rise condos that are relatively new to the Austin skyline.  When I saw how the three kind of line up, I thought maybe I could do something cool with how the two outside buildings sort of wrap or curve into the one in the middle.

Swede House in Zilker

Back in 1838, a family of Swedish immigrants by the surname of Swenson built a house in Govalle, east of Austin, on 400 acres of farmland.  This house now stands under some magnificent oak trees in the Zilker Botanical Gardens and is a nice reminder of how things must have been like back in the early 1800s.

Lily

When I went to the Pfluger Bridge last weekend, I also swung by the Zilker Botanical Garden.  It was a nice place, but even with all of the rain we've been having, I thought there'd be more to see there from other pics I've seen.  Gotta say I wasn't too impressed, but maybe it was the wrong time of year, plus I didn't wander through the whole place either.  Maybe I'll go back someday.  However, I did get this nice pic of a water lily, at least I think that's what it is...

Pfluger Bridge View #2

Here's another shot of the same buildings as in my previous post, but from under the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge.  I took a few liberties with this one.  Can anyone guess what liberty besides the obvious black and white conversion?  Here's a hint; it has to do with the framing of the bridge...

I hope you enjoy the photo and thanks for dropping by.

Tilted Pfluger Bridge View

# 600!!

This is my 600th post on the little blog here!  Can you believe that?  Not sure I thought I'd stick with it this long.  I think I started this silly little thing in 2009 and I haven't gotten tired of it yet.  I guess I'll keep on until I do.  Thanks for visiting over this time, too!  I really appreciate it!  Oh, and tell your friends! Haha!!

Photo: Tilted Pfluger Bridge View

Last weekend I took a trip out to the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge and took a few snaps.  The bad thing was that it was in the middle of the day, which is really not a great time for photography.  So, I tried to mix things up a little by tilting the camera for this particular landscape.

Most of those buildings in the background are new high-rise condos.  Austin is pretty much a big city now.  Austin as I knew it twenty five years ago is certainly long gone and is missed.

Barrel Racer #4

Here's the last of my photos from the Stockyards Rodeo.  It's another barrel racer heading for home.  The rider is quite clear in this one, but I'd like the background to be a little more blurred out, but overall I still think it turned out well.

As always, click on the photo itself to see a larger version.

Barrel Racer #3

I pretty much have just two shots left from the Stockyards Rodeo.  Both are of barrel racers as they ran the last stretch after rounding the last barrel and heading for home.  They run at full speed and it's just amazing to watch.  I tried to slow the shutter speed down on the camera to practice panning so as to give the viewer a sense of speed by blurring out the surroundings yet keeping the rider clear.  I think and hope I accomplished that here.

Barrel Racer #2

This shot is of another barrel racer as she rounded the second barrel on the three barrel course.  I used a little bit longer of an exposure to capture the sense of speed since they go so fast!  Luckily her face stayed still and subsequently stayed in focus pretty well, which I think is the point...

Calf Roping

Calf roping was another fun event to watch, but each round ended quickly.  The calf runs out of the chute, the roper gives chase and gets one shot to rope the calf.  If she ropes it, yay!  If she doesn't, too bad so sad and on to the next one.  She was successful here as you can see.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I remember seeing on TV a long time ago, once the calf got roped, the rider brought it to a dead stop like a dog on a leash.  But in these more sensitive days, the rope now breaks free to allow the calf to keep running after a successful roping.
